Our verdict
A cheeky, sitcom-paced taboo setup with a fun dating-app hook but very thin free episodes; worth unlocking mainly if the secret-affair premise grabs you.
Best for: Fans of sitcom-paced taboo with a playful, confident mom
What is I Dated My Best Friend Mom about?
Jake swipes right on his best friend's mom as a joke, she matches first. One night turns into a secret he can't undo, and when her daughter shows up knowing everything, he's trapped between two women and one door that won't stay shut.
I Dated My Best Friend Mom review
It starts as a dumb joke between friends. Swiping through a dating app, Jake lands on Tyler's mom, and Tyler begs him to swipe left. Jake swipes right instead, and Josie Villanueva has already matched him. That would be awkward enough without Jake staying over at Tyler's place the very same night. The synopsis promises the secret will outgrow one night, and that a daughter who knows everything eventually arrives, trapping Jake between two women.
The free episodes are quick, almost sketch-like. The first gets real comic mileage from Jake's panic, assuring Tyler he swiped left and then quietly hoping Josie hasn't noticed, before she corners him with a smiling reveal that she knows exactly what he did. The second is very short: with Tyler calling from the other room, Josie announces she's heading for a shower and that showers are no fun alone, and Jake invents a bathroom break. The writing leans heavily on Jake narrating his own disbelief, and Tyler is a cardboard cutout, but Josie's sly, unbothered confidence gives the setup some sparkle.
Three premium episodes remain, 36 tokens to unlock them all. The free run ends with Josie hushing him, less a cliffhanger than a doorway; the more intriguing hook is the promised arrival of a daughter who knows the secret. If you like taboo with a sitcom rhythm and a playful, take-charge mom, it's a reasonable unlock. If you want substance from the free part, there isn't much here to judge.
