Jake has no job, no savings and an eviction notice on his door, so when his landlady Vanessa offers to settle the debt 'another way,' he talks himself into calling it business. Trouble arrives when her adult daughter Mia works out what the new tenant has really been paying with, and decides she wants the same arrangement, or Mom finds out. It's a premise built for juggling: two women, one house and a tenant running out of excuses.
Neither free episode wastes a second, and both are more openly charged than most openers. Vanessa is all business, offering Jake a choice between the agency and an arrangement and brushing off his hesitation by calling him a fast learner. Jake's dry narration ('One month of rent, gone') gives the setup a wry edge. Mia changes the dynamic in episode two: mischievous and openly competitive with her mother, she wields her leverage with a grin, and Jake's line about now having two landladies sums up the farce neatly. Characterization is thin, and the coercive money angle may leave a sour taste for some, but the escalation is clear and confident.
