Jake has a habit he can't shake: every time he walks past his girlfriend's stepsister's door, he looks. Kenzie Whitaker plays that stepsister, an adult woman who has clearly been counting, and the series flips the usual embarrassment beat into leverage. Instead of slamming the door or telling her sister, she turns his guilt into a private game, played with his girlfriend never more than a room away.
Episode 1 moves fast and mostly works. Kenzie's dry comeback, needling him that this is the same excuse as the last six times, gives her more personality in one line than Jake gets all episode; he mostly stammers half-sentences. The best moment is the near-miss: as his girlfriend calls out that she's leaving, Kenzie pulls him into her room and hushes him while the goodbye plays out on the other side of the door. It's charged, slightly wicked and very effective. The dialogue is basic, though, and the episode ends almost as soon as the game begins.
