Before leaving on a work trip, Dad hands control of the house to his 22-year-old wife, Ava Parkson, and makes you, his adult son, promise to do whatever she says. Ava hears that as a mandate. She starts issuing house rules with a straight face and a glint in her eye, and the series, judging by the setup, is about how far she's willing to stretch that authority and how long you can pretend nothing is going on.

In the opening episode, the rules arrive one by one: the phone stays in the kitchen, you knock before entering her room, and rule three will be revealed later, a neat cliffhanger built right into the script. Ava then insists on help with her stretching routine, brushing off your polite refusal, which is the series' power-play premise in miniature. The final beat is a classic near-miss: you forget rule two at the worst possible moment, and she notices. Ava is fun, more mischievous than menacing, but the dialogue is thin and the episode feels more like a cold open than a full chapter.
