Our verdict
A tight, one-note revenge setup that nails its opening scene; worth unlocking if stepmom taboo with a spiteful edge is your thing, skippable if you need real plot.
Best for: Stepmom-taboo fans who like a spiteful, revenge-fueled spark
What is Date With My Stepmom about?
When Nina’s husband suddenly cancels their dinner plans, she’s left home alone with her husband’s 20 year old son... and revenge is the only thing on the menu.
Date With My Stepmom review
Nina has the dress, the candlelit dinner and the evening planned down to the minute. What she doesn't have is her husband, who bails for work at the last second. Enter Evan, his 20-year-old son, who wanders in expecting an empty house and finds his stepmother dressed for a night that's no longer happening. This community-made series frames everything as payback: Nina decides the best way to get back at an absent husband runs straight through the son he left at home.
The opening episode is brisk and economical. Evan's inner monologue does most of the heavy lifting, since he spends half the scene telling himself not to look, and the funniest beat comes when he blurts out how stunning she looked, then scrambles to claim he meant someone else. Nina doesn't buy it for a second. She calls him a terrible liar, asks whether he got a good look, and closes with a line that leaves no doubt about her plans. The dialogue is functional rather than witty, and Nina's personality barely extends past wronged and dressed up, but the dynamic is clear and the pace never sags.
Episode 1 plays instantly and episode 2 after a free sign-up; three premium episodes then remain, 36 tokens for the lot. Episode 1 stops at the point of no return, so curiosity alone will carry many viewers forward. Fans of stepmom taboo with a revenge motive should keep going. Anyone who needs more than a grudge to invest in a character should note how thinly Nina is drawn so far.
Scores
What works

- Evan's flustered cover-up is a genuinely funny beat
- Episode 1 ends on a decisive, no-turning-back line
What doesn’t
- Evan's narration spells out every feeling instead of showing it
- Nina is sketched as a mood more than a person
